Rather than make 13 different posts on Twitter of the videos I shoot on my iPhone, I’m going to make one post on here of each medal ceremony this past weekend at state track for the Glasgow and New Franklin track and field teams.

If the videos are shaky, I’ll apologize ahead of time. They don’t have monopods for iPhones. Also, the Class 1 boys 400-meter podium ceremony video was cut short because I ran out of space on my iPhone. At least it didn’t cut out Jay Thompson receiving his medal though.

The track season will be over in about, oh, around 17 hours for our local high school track teams. If you want to get some sun tomorrow, come on down to Jefferson City and see plenty of kids medal. This might be the most medalists the Howard County area will have in the five years I’ve been here.

Glasgow medaled in three events, and if no one is DQ’d in the finals, we’re looking for at least medals in at least eight more events tomorrow between Glasgow and New Franklin, and possibly more in the field events.

Here is a rundown of the schedule…

11 a.m.

Girls pole vault (Alyson Fuemmeler, Peyton Davis)

Girls discus (Nikki Fuemmeler, Jasmyne Boggs)

Boys triple jump (Blake Hackman)

For the first time since I’ve come to Fayette, I’ll get to see New Franklin and Glasgow athletes at the sectional meet. It helps that those two schools also happen to be competing at the same place as Fayette.

Usually when I go to a sectional track meet, I’m there to cover anywhere from three to five events. If you look at the schedule sheet to the right, I’ve highlighted all the events I need to cover. It’s clearly more than five this year.

To make it easier for me, I’m going to go ahead and listed the athletes competing, in chronological order based on the time schedule. Or if you’d prefer, here are the heat sheets for the Class 1 sectional and the Class 2 sectional. Putting together this list may have taken longer than how long tomorrow’s track meet may last.

I think I’ll go ahead and order my media credentials for next week’s state track and field championships in Jefferson City.

Compiling area basketball standings was a piece of cake compared to the chaos of putting together spring baseball standings.

It’s actually been easier to keep track of postponements and cancellations than it has been tracking down scores since mid-March. But I’m giving it the old college try.

I guarantee this isn’t perfect, but it’s the best I can do. Most of my data came from the MSHSAA website, but I get the feeling a lot of coaches aren’t updating their schedules and scores, so some of this information is likely incomplete. But I know I have the records correctly for our coverage area teams.

Peruse this list at your liking. If a team has an asterisk next to it, it’s because I don’t feel confident that I have their up-to-date record.

Lewis & Clark Conference

Westran: 6-1

Salisbury: 4-4

Fayette: 3-4

Paris: 3-4

Slater: 0-2

(I feel pretty good about having the L&C records correctly listed)

Central Activities Conference

Sturgeon: 6-0

Cairo: 7-1

New Franklin: 7-4

Glasgow: 1-2

*Brunswick: 0-3

Madison: 0-5

*Keytesville: no record

Cooper County Activities Association

Pilot Grove: 7-2

*Jamestown: 1-1

Higbee: 1-4

Otterville: 1-5

*Bunceton: 0-1

*Prairie Home: no record

Independents

Kendrick said he will not coach at Bunceton and he will just serve as an administrator.

“The hard thing to think about was this was something that, if I (left Fayette), I was going to do it in a way in which I had a good opportunity to go somewhere and just be in administration,” Kendrick said. “That opportunity presented itself and I was able to take advantage of it.”

Kendrick, 32, has been at Fayette since the 2008-09 school year. In that time as the boys basketball head coach, he has compiled a 91-42 record (including 38-12 in the Lewis & Clark Conference) and led the Falcons to two Slater Wildcat Classic championships and a title in the Northwest Hughesville Tournament.

The Falcons had their most successful season under Kendrick in 2009-10, posting a 21-7 record and winning a share of the Lewis & Clark Conference championship. Fayette also appeared in the Class 2 District 7 championship game in 2010 and 2013 during Kendrick’s tenure.

As baseball coach, Kendrick has a 20-45 record with Fayette, but the Falcons are off to their best start under Kendrick in 2013 with a 3-4 record.

Kendrick said he and his family will continue to live in Fayette.

I don’t get many chances to do analysis, so I’m going to take advantage of this opportunity.

I understand that last Thursday was the first quality time many high school track teams were able to get out on the track for the 2013 season. Coincidentally, for a lot of them, it happened to be at a track meet, not at a practice.

So common sense tells me that, with a limited number of practices because of the inclement weather, numbers should be down, right? Well, that got me curious, and I got the idea to compare numbers from last year’s Fayette Relays to last week’s meet. For most schools, last year’s Fayette Relays was a team’s second meet of the season.

Yeah, some numbers are down, but believe it or not, there were some numbers that were up. And those numbers that are up give me reason to believe there is a lot of promise for those athletes this season. Below are some of the figures comparing results for Fayette and Glasgow athletes. (New Franklin did not complete in this year’s Fayette Relays).

NOTE: I’ll list these by Name: 2013 result (2012 result).

Another year of basketball is complete in the Howard County area, and many teams came away with successful seasons. Of the 10 high school basketball teams in the coverage area, seven teams had 10 or more wins in a season, five finished at the .500 mark or better, four played for a district championship and one team reached the state playoffs, for the 34th time in school history.

At last week’s All-District meeting among Mid-Missouri sportswriters and sportscasters in Jefferson City, 16 area athletes received All-District recognition and one coach received Coach of the Year honors. Glasgow came away with the most recognition — and deservedly so — with seven All-District basketball players. The two teams combined to have a 44-13 record this season.

In total, six players received a selection to the first team of their respective class and 10 others were named to the second team. We had two players (Rudy Williams and Tyler White) make the Class 2 boys first team, which is a very impressive collection of basketball players.

Here are the Class 1 and Class 2 lists, which were released earlier today. Area players (and coach) are highlighted in bold.

It feels strange that all of the CAC teams are done playing at this point. Well, here is one last hurrah of the basketball season for the Central Activities Conference.

In total, nine Glasgow players and six New Franklin players received All-Conference honors this basketball season. In fact, the entire starting five for the Glasgow boys and the Sturgeon girls received All-CAC honors, which is worthy of bragging rights. The way the season unfolded, it’s no surprise that Brad Roberts of Cairo and Molly Gregory of Sturgeon won the Most Valuable Player awards this season. Both teams had an unblemished conference record of 12-0.
